Participation in RISC-V Summit North America 2025

Oct 27, 2025

The PQC4eMRTD Project was present at RISC-V Summit North America 2025! Dr Leonidas Kosmidis from Barcelona Supercomputing Center and Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya has presented during the Members' Day a special use case for Post Quantum Cryptography (PQC) particularly related to Machine Readable Travel Documents. RISC-V International's open ISA, presents an opportunity to shape the future of PQC migration and standardisation, taking into account the special requirements of the processors found in these documents.

In addition, PQC4eMRTD participated with another contribution in the program. Dr Leonidas Kosmidis presented a poster on Post Quantum Cryptography hardware design exploration, in the security poster session. 3 different hardware designs were covered, following different performance and area trade-offs from custom instructions to discrete accelerators, integrated with different RISC-V cores. Knowing such trade offs is particularly interesting in resource constrained cores like the ones found in electronic Machine Readable Travel Documents such as passports.
